Bulls drop heartbreaker to Bowling Green 64-62

On a day when she was honored, Joanna Smith potentially stepped on and off the court at Alumni Arena for the last time in her career.

The Mississippi native poured in 25 points, which included five 3-pointers, but fouled out in the final 10 seconds of what proved to a be a 64-62 loss to Bowling Green on senior day.

Smith moved into 7th all-time in scoring with 1,296 points.

Stephanie Reid and Summer Hemphill each missed layups in the final seconds to tie the game, as Buffalo fell to 19-8 overall and 9-7 in Mid-American Conference Play.

Reid, finished with 15 points but also tallied five assist to set a new single-season record with 201 this year.

Leading 53-45 heading into the fourth quarter, the Falcons used a 7-0 run to pull within 53-52 with a little more than eight minutes to play in the quarter.

But, after a jumper by Grand Island native Cassie Oursler to push the Bulls lead back out to three, the squad went scoreless for six minutes and found themselves in 60-55 hole with 1:30 left in regulation.

Buffalo will return to action Wednesday, March 1, when the Bulls travel to Akron.  They wrap up the season March 4 against Kent State.
