WNY Red Cross sending help to Canada

Posted at 9:30 AM, May 13, 2016

The Western New York Chapter of the Red Cross will be sending help to Canada, in the wake of Alberta's wildfire that has burned more than 565,000 acres.

Peggy McGee-Smith of Kenmore will be working in Disaster Mental Health Branch with the Canadian Red Cross. She will help people who have been affected by the wild-fire deal with emotional stress.

The massive wildfire forced 70,000 Fort McMurray residents to leave their homes, making it the largest fire-related evacuation in the history of the province. As of now, people are in need of food, water and a place to sleep.
