Two people are recovering after being rescued from a house fire on Glenside Avenue in the Town of Tonawanda.

When police and firefighters arrived, they located a 25-year-old woman yelling for help from a second floor window.

According to police, officers attempted to break into the home, but were forced back by heavy smoke and heat. Firefighters were then able to safely rescue the woman from the bedroom.

Firefighters also discovered an 80-year-old man, unconscious on the first floor with burns throughout his body.

Police say two dogs were also rescued from the home.

The woman was taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment of smoke inhalation and later released. The man was also taken to ECMC and is listed in critical condition.

Investigators are working to figure out what cause the fire. Police say estimated damages to the home were listed to be approximately $85,000 to the structure.
