There is always something buzzing at Masterson's Garden Center and Aquatic Nursery in East Aurora. It's usually honey bees. Erin Holko, one of the bee experts there says people stop by for bees, bee hives, protective clothing, smokers and hive tools-a little number that looks like a mini crowbar and is used for prying apart the sticky bee boxes.

Erin says the two main reasons people take up beekeeping are for the honey and for helping the bees saying "people know that there is something going on with bees, and they know that by putting healthy bees back in the landscape they are helping the bees."

Erin's Dad Mike Masterson and her brother Dan are the other bee experts here. They agree that local bees and bee keepers have had a tough season so far because of the warm-up in February followed by a cold snap. At Masterson's they raise bees and sell honey as well as service eight hundred area bee keepers. They offer classes about beekeeping with more information available attheir website.
