Superintendents: More funding and less mandates

Posted at 6:57 PM, Feb 17, 2017

New York State Senator, Chris Jacobs hosted his first in a series of district-wide roundtable meetings for school superintendents.

The roundtable aimed at bridging the gap between district leader concerns and administrators across the senator's district. Several area superintendents expressed concerns with the lack of funding for schools in Governor Cuomo's budget, which they said could force them to make more cuts in their district.

"The governor proposing to do away with the funding formula together and subject that investment in public education to annual political horse trading in Albany is very very dangerous," Hamburg Central School District Superintendent, Mike Cornell said.

"With the student body like we all have we want to have comprehensive programs. We have to have comprehensive programs to meet those needs," One superintendent said.
