Beginning Thursday, December 31, recent college graduates from schools in New York State can apply to participate in a new student loan forgiveness program.
The "Get On Your Feet" program is open to New Yorkers who:
- Have an undergraduate degree from a college or university located in New York State
- Graduated in December 2014 or later
- Make less than $50,000 in adjusted gross income per year
- Are enrolled in a federal income-based repayment program or "Pay As You Earn" program
The state will make up to 24 payments per recipient and each payment will be equal to the recipient's monthly student loan repayment amount.
Applications are accepted year around through the state's Higher Education Services Corporation.
