As you get your kids ready for school, you may have questions about school closures due to winter weather.

It can often be a tough in questionable weather, and usually concerns your child's safety.

"It's certainly the parent's right to keep their kids home," says Jamestown Public Schools Superintendent Bret Apthorpe. "While I lean on the science for when we keep schools open and closed, I would expect families to do whatever they feel is right for them."

Apthorpe expressed this opinion in a video he posted to the Jamestown Public Schools' Facebook page, outlining the district's procedure for determining when to close schools for inclement weather.

He says the school district's decisions often come from data sent out by the National Weather Service.
