A Buffalo native is hoping to bring a heliport, and his sightseeing helicopter tour business, to the Buffalo River.

Mike Campbell owns Fly Buffalo NY, offering helicopter rides to show off WNY from the sky. The goal is to operate out of a location a short distance from downtown Buffalo.

Campbell is working with Ellicott Development to put a heliport on a vacant piece of land off of Ohio Street near Silo City. The plans are going before the city's planning board on October 10.

The project would include three helipads, office space and a parking area. A hangar and customer lounge would be added later, according to plans submitted to the Common Council.

Right now, Fly Buffalo NY operates out of the Niagara Falls International Airport and the Buffalo-Lancaster Regional Airport.
