UPDATE: The Buffalo Police Department says 35-year-old Joseph Arnonica III, of Buffalo, has been arrested in connection to the overnight fire on East Delavan.

Officers have arrested a male in his 30's. According to police, he has been charged with second degree arson, reckless endangerment, and criminal mischief. The suspect's identity has not yet been released.

Police responded to the call just before 4 a.m.

Original: Buffalo firefighters are working to find out what caused a fire near Forest Lawn Cemetery that forced seven people from their homes.

Nearly 60 firefighters were called to the home on the 200 block of East Delavan Avenue around 4:00 a.m. Tuesday.

The Buffalo Fire Department says it started in the second floor of the home, and spread to the attic, then to the houses neighboring it on either side.

Crews were initially inside battling this blaze but were quickly evacuated, as they continued fighting the fire defensively.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the blaze.

The house that initially caught fire sustained about $80,000 in damage, according to the fire department; the roof of that home collapsed.

One of the other two homes took $35,000 in damage and the other sustained $10,000 in damage.

Firefighters called in the Red Cross to assist the families who were displaced.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
