Immediately after New Era Field was officially announced as the new name for the Buffalo Bills stadium, the nicknames started pouring all over social media.

Bills Center Eric Wood tweeted, "Pumped to get to play in #TheCap for the first time this weekend!"

The Cap quickly became one of the more popular nicknames floating around Twitter.  However, we won't give Wood credit for that nickname.  The Buffalo Bills included that same hashtag in its announcement tweet: "Introducing, the new home of the Buffalo Bills: New Era Field. #TheCap"

Bills fan Tom Stasio @BUF037 replied to Wood with another idea: "what about 'The Lid' as in the fans cheer knocks the lid off."

Another nickname gaining traction is in the form of an abbreviation.

Chris B @fallsnative suggested "The 'NERF' aka New Era Field."

As the front office at Pegula Sports and Entertainment must have predicted, many Bills fans will be slow to accept the change.  Ralph Wilson Stadium has been the home of the Bills since 1998.

"Not sure how I feel about new era field... It will always be the Ralph to me," Brittanny Fenner @ayy_Brit tweeted.
