Congressman Chris Collins calls for new IJC Commissioners

Posted at 11:27 AM, Oct 20, 2017

Congressman Chris Collins is urging for replacement of all International Joint Commission Commissioners to address the failed Plan 2014.

Plan 2014 significantly increased the annual costs of shoreline maintenance and negatively impacted Lake Ontario's rapidly deteriorating shoreline, according to the congressman's office.

Collins says she claimed Plan 2014 and the IJC were not responsible for Lake Ontario's shoreline flooding this past spring.

"Instead of working to fix the problems and make sure destruction like this does not occur again, the IJC is passing the blame and making excuses," said Collins.

He's aligned himself with other local elected officials and vocalized concerns on the lake-level regulation plan that leaves the south shore of Lake Ontario in danger of historic erosion, according to officials.

Collins has met with both Vice President Mike Pence and President Donald Trump about his concerns.

"I have confidence that the Trump Administration will act quickly to appoint commissioners who understand the needs of Lake Ontario residents and will work with their Canadian partners to address these critical issues," added Collins.
