A Buffalo store owner has been sentenced in a welfare fraud case.

According to the District Attorney's Office, 37-year-old Ahmed Alshami will spend six months in jail and five years probation in a welfare fraud case.

Prosecutors say Alshami, who owns IGA Express Mart, admitted to buying EBT cards from individuals for cash and paid half the amount of their worth between October 2014 and March 2016.

Alshami pleaded guilty to misuse of food stamps and attempted burglary in April.
