The Buffalo Police Department has increased patrols after a recent rash of shootings, which are suspected to be gang-related.

In the last 16 days, there have been 17 shootings. Eight of those have been deadly. You can find full details on all of the homicides here.

Mayor Byron Brown says these incidents are cases of criminally-involved people going after other criminally-involved people.

He made it clear on Monday morning that he does not believe the general public should be concerned for their safety.

US Attorney William Hochul says he is "not prepared" to call the spike in violence gang-related, rather qualifying the crimes as "targeted."
