The simple home exercises you can do during the holidays

HAMBURG, N.Y. (WKBW) — With the holiday season in full swing, you may be wondering how you can avoid packing on extra pounds and what you can do to stay in shape while gyms are closed due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Lauren Gibson from Rise Fitness Studio in Hamburg has a few simple exercises you can do from your own living room:

  1. Goblet Squat
    1. Begin with feet slightly wider than shoulder with apart
    2. Bring weight below the chin close to the chest, elbows pointing down
    3. Engage core and look straight ahead
    4. Push hips back as knees bend, going as low as you can
    5. Keep the weight in your heels as you return to a standing position
  2. Dumbbell Shoulder Press
    1. Stand upright and keep back straight, feet about shoulder width apart
    2. Hold a dumbbell in each hand with an overhand grip
    3. Keeping the elbows out, raise weights above the head
    4. Return back to the shoulders
  3. Bicep Curl
    1. Starts with arms down at sides, holding the dumbbells with palms facing up
    2. Keep shoulders down and relaxed
    3. Sending at the elbow, lift the weights so the they approach the shoulders
    4. Elbows should stay tucked in close to ribs
