BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Sunday that six sports will be cleared to resume at the youth level on Monday, July 6: Baseball, softball, field hockey, gymnastics, cross country, and crew.

There are a few stipulations that come with getting kids back to organized sports: The first is that, on July 6th, a region must be in Phase 3 to continue with these sports. The other is that there may only be two spectators per child.

"How many people come to these games? Are they going to be able to social distance?" Southtowns Travel League president Tom Prince asked. "It is going to be difficult early on. I mean right now, the first goal was to get [kids] back on the field."

The potential resumption of youth sports follows the go-ahead received for summer camps. The one-two punch benefits the various programs that gymnastics facilities can offer.

"Summer camp is A-OK and we're good," Rolly Pollies owner Jim Fleckenstein said. "We're just waiting to see what will be required of these classes that we do here."

Whether they're hitting home runs or sticking cartwheels, organizers and gym owners are happy to have an answer.
