Large is the seventh head coach in program history.
The 36-year-old has spent the last three seasons as an assistant with the Griffs and helped guide them on a 17-game unbeaten streak earlier this season.
Canisius ended the season with a 21-11-7 overall record before their season ended in the Atlantic Hockey semifinals.
He replaces Dave Smith, who took the head coaching job at RPI in early April.
