Erica Evans scored five goals and added two assists to lead Canisius to it's fifth Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship, a 17-5 win over Monmouth on Sunday.

With her seven points, Evans set a single-season program record with 82.  She was named the MAAC Tournament MVP.

The Golden Griffs scored the first 10 goals of the contest and led 10-1 halftime.

Monmouth pulled to within eight to start the second half, but the Griffs weren't going to leave anything to chance after being upset in the title game a season ago to Fairfield.  Canisius scored the next three to open up an 11 point lead and never looked back.

"Redemption.  It's just awesome," Evans said.  "We wanted to come out and play hard and that's what we did for the full 60 minutes and we did and it's great."

"I think last year put it into perspective for us that it's not just given to us," Taylor Giglio added.  "We worked so hard every single day and we sacrifice a lot. To come back, take the title back, take the trophy back it feels really good."

The 12-goal difference is the largest in MAAC Championship history.

Canisius will play Cornell in the NCAA Tournament First Round on Friday.
