Lufkin Industries LLC has issued a closing alert for its plant in Wellsville, affecting all 54 employees.
According to a WARN Notice from the New York State Department of Labor, Lufkin intends to close its plant on December 16. Layoffs will begin two weeks before that, on December 2.
Lufkin Industries LLC is a part of GE Oil & Gas. It manufactures ball and roller bearings. Its WARN Notice cites economic reasons for its closure.
WARN Notices are put out by the Department of Labor under the New York State Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act. The act requires companies with 50 or more employees to give advanced notice of any layoffs or closures affecting 25 or more employees, if those employees make up at least one third of the workforce.
