Wegmans does not advertise on the right-wing website Breitbart, despite a social media post by a former governor and presidential candidate implying it does.

In a tweet Friday, former Vermont governor Howard Dean retweeted a screen grab showing an advertisement for the Rochester-based chain on the Breitbart app.

"I'm a Wegmans shopper. If they don't fix this I won't be. I give them one week," Dean, the former chair of the Democratic National Committee and one-time presidential candidate, tweeted.

"We do not advertise on Breitbart," Wegmans' Buffalo Consumer Affairs Manager Michele Mehaffy said in a statement to 7 Eyewitness News. "The reason people see our ads there is through digital retargeting."

Digital retargeting, also known as remarketing, allows businesses to use computer code to follow shoppers on the web to keep the company's brand in front of consumers after they have left the company's site.
