Two UB students struck while crossing street

Buffalo police are charging a 40 year old Amherst man with DWI in connection with a crash that injured 2 college students.

The crash happened at 11:30pm Thursday night in the 100 block of Winspear Avenue.

Police tell us 2, 21-year old women were struck while trying to cross the street.

Both were taken to ECMC. One has been treated and released. The second student is in fair condition.

Alex Chesley is a senior at UB and lives on Winspear Avenue.  He was on the street when the accident happened and he said he is friends with both women.

“I mean you hear someone got hit and at first everyone is like “oh my God”," Chesley said.  "And then you find out it’s two people that you know and all of a sudden it turns into something very different.  I remember when the people who were taking care of her, both of them, outside and when they came inside to warm up and the cops and ambulances got there.  People were hysterical, crying.”

The name of the driver is not being released at this time.  A police spokesperson says dditional charges against the driver are possible.
