UPDATE: Buffalo Police say they have a 29-year-old man in custody in connection with this fire. He was arrested on arson and other charges.

Buffalo firefighters battled a two-alarm fire in the city's Allentown neighborhood early Sunday morning.

Fire officials say two people were rescued from the fire that broke out near Allen Street and Franklin Street around 8 a.m. No injuries were reported.

Red Cross was called to the scene to assist six people from the apartment building.

According to firefighters, businesses in the area were also impacted by the fire. Fire crews had to force entry in order to prevent the spread of flames.

Officials say a portion of the roof of the building collapsed during the fire.

Firefighters knocked down the fire, but hot spots remained hours later.

Fire officials say the cost of damage is estimated at $500,000 to the residential structure, $250,000 to the contents and $10,000 to the exposure.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
