On Wednesday afternoon SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher will be in Albany discussing a topic of major concern for many students and families across New York State - the rising cost of higher education.

For many students, the burden of student loan debt is overwhelming and while last year Governor Andrew Cuomo introduced the "Student Loan Forgiveness Plan," the steady rise in percentage of student debt remains an issue.

The Institute for College Access and Success cited in the 2013-14 academic year, students attending 4-year private and/or public institutions had over $27,000 dollars in debt. In perspective, that's 61% of students.

During that same year here at home, 73% of students at Buffalo State College acquired debt, meanwhile 45% of students enrolled at the University at Buffalo found themselves in the same position.
