A family that got lost in the woods near the Branches of Niagara Campground on Grand Island was safely found by an Erie County Sheriff's deputy and K9.

The family called police Saturday, August 12th, just before 10:00 p.m.  They had gotten lost in the woods after walking away from the campground, and were running out of power on their cell phone.  They also didn't have a flashlight.

Erie County Sheriff's Deputy Girdler and his K9 Loki were called to the scene.  They were able to find the family after tracking them for about 10 minutes.

The family was then able to safely make it back to the campground.
