Niagara Falls police say one person was stabbed overnight and rushed to Erie County Medical Center. Police say they were seriously hurt.

Falls police were called out to the 400 block of 9th Street, near Ferry Avenue, about 1:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Police had the area roped off for an initial call of shots fired, but it's unclear if a gun was ever used here.

According to police, an officer found blood on the sidewalk, but did not find an injured person in the area. A short time later, they say a man drove himself to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, bleeding from the neck.

Police say that the man was stabbed once in the neck, hitting the carotid artery.

The victim was given blood and was taken to ECMC where he remains in critical condition, but is expected to survive.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
