The mother of two kids killed in a Batavia house fire is facing charges.

Two young boys died after a house fire on May 20th on State Street Road in Batavia. The mother, 25-year-old Heather Ace, faces two counts of endangering the welfare of a child as she is accused of leaving the two kids home alone for about an hour and a half without supervision.

Crews initially said the fire started in the rear of the home, and spread from the first floor to the second floor by a window. Deputies were first on the scene and were unable to enter the home due to the intense heat and smoke.

Moments later, firefighters arrived. They found the bodies of Michael and Micah Gard in a rear bedroom of the downstairs apartment. The toddlers were declared dead at the scene. An autopsy found both died of smoke inhalation.

The mom will be in court on October 1st.
