The Erie County Sheriff’s office is warning about a new phone scam targeting Erie County residents.

The Sheriff’s Office is warning people to ignore an individual claiming to be an Erie County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant using the name Robert Stzeczario, badge # 40591. The fake Sergeant is contacting people claiming the person failed to appear for jury duty, and threatens to arrest the person if a fine of $2,500 is not paid.

Detectives think the calls are being generated from a disposable phone or through the Internet since the calls are untraceable.

The Sheriff’s Office does not contact residents by phone to serve warrants or collect fines. If you get a call like this – you should ignore it and just hang up the phone.
