Suffering through medical issues can be hard enough within itself, so ECMC has announced a new partnership to help patients through their healing process.

The Center for Elder Law and Justice, ECMC Corporation, Western New York Breast Health and the ECMC Foundation announced the MedLaw Cancer Partnership of WNY.

The program will provide free legal assistance to qualifying patients. Some eligible patients would include those who live in low-income households, the elderly or others in vulnerable situations. These people can be negatively impacted by their legal circumstances, in turn having a negative effect on their treatment and health.

The MedLaw partnership aims to provide for a patient's needs, well beyond the walls of the hospital. Lawyers will help where a healthcare provider cannot.

Attorneys from the CELJ are now embedded at ECMC to help patients.

Training will also be offered to hospital staff and learning sessions will be provided to patients and the public.
