Brace yourself Canalside fans. Big changes are coming.
The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation says they're expecting to receive requests for proposals to build out parts of the so called "Aud-block" as early as next month. The Aud-block is the area immediately around the ice rink.
A spokesperson for the City of Buffalo says green space around the skyway is set for development, as well.
Not all of the green space at Canalside will be up for development, especially the green space closest to the boardwalk.
The plan is to keep things simple. The ECHDC is looking for plans with lots of mixed-use development, creating a village-like feel.
“Let's do a much more sensible, manageable development that celebrates our history. That's what we're looking for down at Canalside,” said Sam Hoyt the regional president for Empire State Development.
