Thuy Lan Nguyen

MMJ, Anchor

Thuy Lan joined the Eyewitness News morning team as a reporter and multimedia journalist in June 2016.

Don’t worry, the spelling of her name is no indication of how it’s actually pronounced. Say it like this: Twee Lawn New-jen.

Thuy Lan is originally from the state known for beer, cheese and the Green Bay Packers: Wisconsin. She grew up in Mequon and Milwaukee, then moved to Germantown, so she’s no stranger to lake effect snow!

College took her across the country to Arizona State University. She graduated in the scorching heat with a degree from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. While in college, Thuy Lan anchored and reported for Arizona PBS, specializing in state politics and election coverage.

Her first job post-college took her to Bakersfield, just an hour and a half north of Los Angeles. While covering Kern County, Thuy Lan spent time working many different positions—reporter, producer, anchor and digital producer. She spent a lot of time covering local law enforcement, a mudslide that closed a stretch of California highway for more than a week, public safety issues and fun events around the county. She also field produced at the first 2016 CNN GOP debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.

She loves learning about all that makes Western New York great, including heart-racing adventures across zip-lines, being terrified at haunted houses, exploring new businesses and sharing fun things the community can do together. If you have anything you want her to try, please don't hesitate to reach out!

In her down time she loves to cook, pet other people’s puppies and obsessively shops for J. Crew online.
