Western New York's all-time leading scorer has decided where he'll be playing college basketball.

On Friday Cheektowaga native Dom Welch announced that he'll be heading to St. Bonaventure University. Welch, a 6'6", 180 pound small forward, played for Cheektowaga before heading to the Spire Academy in Ohio.

"I'm real grateful for this. I've had my ups and downs through school and stuff like that," an emotional Welch told 7 ABC. "It was really stressful for me. Just knowing what school to go to and hearing from different schools every other day and just trying to find the best fit. I feel like this school is the school for me and I'm happy with my decision."

Welch finished with 2,376 career points while with Cheektowaga and was named the unanimous 207 All Western New York Played of the Year.

"I feel like this a good opportunity because I'm close to home, it's a good basketball conference and there is everything I need there," Welch added. "The school is just a family over there. They really take care of their players."

Welch said he also seriously considered Sienna and LMU (Los Angeles). St. Bonaventure made their way to the NCAA Tournament in March, but lost in the Round of 64 to Florida.
