The 60th annual Porter Cup crowned a new champion on Saturday evening.

Thomas Walsh of High Point, North Carolina won the cup after shooting a four-round total of -11. His -2 final round gave him a three stroke win.

"It's incredible," Walsh said after the win. "I've been working toward it all summer. A teammate of mine won it three or four years ago and it's cool to have my name on the list with him and represent my school and everything that comes with this."

Walsh was among more than 60 golfers from all over the world to play at the tournament held in Lewiston. He entered Saturday's final round at the top of the leaderboard but as we saw in the first two rounds of play, that top spot isn't safe. That wasn't the case for Walsh though as he maintained the lead throughout the day.

"It was the hardest middle battle, probably ever. I was fighting with myself to not think ahead," he said. "It was really cool having the fans out there but I was just trying to keep calm and play my own game."

No win is easy though and that was the case for Walsh. His tee shot off the 18th wound up landing on a blanket near the side of the road. He was given a ball drop and his chip wound up putting him in a good position to secure the win. He wound up double bogeying the hole but that didn't matter. With the win, Walsh earned an exemption into the 2019 LECOM Health Challenge, part of the Web.com tour.

"That's actually really cool. I forgot about that," Walsh said. "That's really cool and I get my first pro start there and I couldn't wish it any other way. That's perfect."

Tyler Strafaci, Blake Windred, and Ben Schlottman all tied for 2nd with a four-round total of -8. Eoin Leonard finished 5th with a -6 overall score. Several WNY players took part in this Tournament. Ben Reichert of East Amherst had the lowest total among them. He finished tied for 10th with a -4 overall score. The full leaderboard can be seen here.
