At 6'5", it's hard not to notice Amari DeBerry standing well above her Williamsville South teammates.

She's the tallest one on the practice court and has been using her height to her advantage.

"I can see the court pretty well so if I see someone out the corner of my eye and I'm inside stuck, I can kick it out because the rest of my teammates are there and they're always ready," she said.

The Billies are having a great year and are just one of four teams in New York still alive in the girls Class A bracket as of Friday morning.

DeBerry has been helping lead the charge. She's averaging nearly 18 points, eight rebounds and three blocks a game and a few weeks ago, scored her 1,000th career point as just a freshman.

"It's something I think a lot of people go for but for me it's just knowing that I've reached another milestone and I just gotta keep going."

It's the first of many milestones she hopes to reach and for DeBerry, there will be plenty of them in the future. Her numbers and height are earning her some national attention.

Programs like UB, Louisville, South Carolina and UConn have either gotten in touch with her or have stopped by practice to see her in action.

Any girl her age dreams of playing for a program like those mentioned but she also knows she's still got a long way to go and is embracing the task in front of her.

"I'm playing because I want to have fun," DeBerry said. "Right now, I'm just focusing on developing even more so it's exciting but I just have to remember to keep my composure and be humble and keep playing."
