It is often said that football is about family.

"To carry on our name, anything positive, it's a blessing," Lancaster senior quarterback Dan Speyer said.

And senior Dan Speyer is one of generations of Speyers to suit up for Lancaster. "My uncle Jim, my Uncle Rick, my dad, Jim, Joe, Matt Andy, cousin Ben, me and then some younger kids down the line."

From his demeanor, to even the number 11 jersey, everything about Speyer is a tribute to his family.

"My cousin Matt, he wore it when he played in high school," Speyer said. "I always looked to him as a role model. He's a big part of how I do things and why I do things. I'm proud to wear his number."

And in his final year, it's the coaches who look to the senior to be the rock of the Legends.

"It's a privilege to coach Dan," head coach Chris Dickson said. "You just look for him to lead this team and do some great things for us."

So far so good. The senior helped usher in a new era in Lancaster in the program's first game as the Legends, a 55-21 win over Clarence.

"It takes a strong class to represent the first name. We're ready for the Legends."
