It's always an accomplishment to break a personal record but for Christina Wende of Kenmore West, that record was just the beginning of a great day.

"I just thought I got a personal record and that's good," Wende said. "I didn't even think about it as breaking a school record at first and then I was like I just did it."

During the holiday break, Wende and her team competed at Houghton College and Wende put her name in the record books, not once, not twice, but four times.

"It was really cool especially since all of them, I think three of them, were my own record which was crazy," she said. "But it was pretty surreal, I did two relays for the other people in my relay, it was pretty nice for them too."

Wende now holds the school record in the 55 meter hurdles and the triple jump and is also a part of the school record relay team for both of those events.

That's not all. Her triple jump record also qualified her for the New Balance Emerging Elite Nationals.

Wende has qualified for the Nationals before but wasn't able to go due to other obligations.

"I'm so happy," she said about qualifying again. "Just to get the experience and compete against high level athletes and plus to represent my hometown is just an amazing experience."

Wende is excited to be a part of the field and until then, is working toward States.

She's already qualified in two different events and in the past has done well in the triple jump, placing in the top five.

As for hurdles, she's suffered falls the last two years and hopes to turn that around during her final indoor track & field season.

"I think about it everyday. Every time I get out of the blocks bad or I just have a bad practice. I just think about it and think what can I do better to not fall," she said. "I feel like once you compete, the more you practice, the more you realize what you have to work on so I've just been working and hopefully I won't fall this year."
