Charly Hearon is a story of adversity.
"She's really coming out this season to show them that she's back, the injury's not effecting her and they kind of missed out on a great athlete," head coach Tawan Slaughter said.
As a freshman at Christian Central Academy, Hearon was a star.
She was being looked at by Division-I programs and it seemed like things were falling into place in her young career.
Then everything changed in an instant that Summer.
"I sprained by knee or at least I thought I did," Hearon said. "About a month later after I did that, I tried to play again and then after that I injured myself seriously."
Hearon wound up tearing her ACL and her meniscus.
Those D-I offers went away and Hearon had to sit on the sideline for nearly two years.
"It came to a point where I didn't even eat for a few weeks," she said. "I was just heartbroken that I couldn't even play the sport that I loved so much."
But that sadness soon turned into determination.
Hearon started working out with her Dad and rehabbing those muscles around her tear.
She's now back to full strength and is currently averaging nearly 30 points a game as a senior.
Even better? She's once again being looked at by college programs and that alone makes the rehabbing all worth it.
"It's kind of like a weight off my shoulders," she said about getting offers again. "All four years throughout high school, it's always been something that I've been worried about. Am I gonna get an offer? If I don't, what am I going to do? But now that I've gotten it, I feel extremely secure now in myself and playing now."
