Canisius clinches share of MAAC title, earns 2nd seed in Conference Tournament

The Canisius men's basketball team earned a share of the MAAC title for the 2nd time in program history.

On Sunday afternoon, the Golden Griffins beat Marist 98-74 to claim a regular season championship for the first time since the 1993-94 season.

 

MAAC Men's Tournament set:

With Rider's win over Iona, Canisius earned the 2nd seed in the MAAC Tournament after a tiebreaker following identical conference records.

The Golden Griffins earned a first round bye and will play their quarterfinal game on Friday, March 2nd at 9:30pm. They play the winner of the 7th seed Quinnipiac and 10th seed Siena College quarterfinal game. 

Niagara earned the tournament's 3rd seed and will play their quarterfinal game on Friday, March 2nd. They'll play the winner of the 6th seed Fairfield and 11th seed Marist quarterfinal game.

All games will be played at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. The Championship game is set for Monday, March 5th at 7pm.

 

MAAC Women's Basketball:

Following Sunday's MAAC action, the Niagara and Canisius women's basketball teams learned their fate.

Canisius is the 8th seed and will play 9th seed Monmouth Thursday, March 1st at 9:30am. The winner will advance to play top seed Quinnipiac in the quarterfinal round.

Niagara is the 6th seed and will play 11th seed Saint Peter's Thursday, March 1st at 1:30pm. The winner will advance to play 3rd seed Siena in the quarterfinal round.

All games will be played at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. The women's championship is set for Monday, March 5th at 2:30pm.
