(WKBW) — It would be an understatement to say that Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott was disappointed in the special teams results in 2018. Following a handful of games, McDermott let his frustrations known about the poor performance of those units.
In response, the Bills changed the special teams coordinator from Danny Crossman to the young Heath Farwell, and at least in one component of special teams, Farwell will have one of the best in the league at his disposal. According to Diana Russini of ESPN, Pro Bowl returner Andre Roberts has agreed to terms with the Bills.
Roberts, 31, spent the 2018 season as a member of the New York Jets where he was named to the league's season-ending all-star game for his work as both a kick and punt returner. On kickoffs, Roberts averaged 29.4 yards per return and brought one for a touchdown, too. On punts, Roberts averaged a career high 14.1 yards per return and also had a touchdown. In all his opportunities, Roberts wound up with 10 returns out of 63 that went for 40 yards or more.
He bounced around the league for a bit playing for four teams in four seasons, but ultimately found a home with the Jets where he had a career year as a return man. Terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed, and the team has yet to make the agreement official.
