A Western New York woman who confessed to holding three members of her estranged husband's family hostage is going to prison for three to six years.

Thirty-three-year-old Latisha Maxwell admitted to going to her estranged husband's family home on October 5, 2014 and taking three members of her estranged husband's family hostage.

The District Attorney's Office says Maxwell pointed a loaded semi-automatic pistol at the family and demanded to speak to her estranged husband. Maxwell then told him that unless he came over, she would kill everyone in the house.

Buffalo Police and hostage negotiators responded to the house, but Maxwell refused to budge. After a few hours, Maxwell shot herself. The injury was non-life threatening. She was treated and released from ECMC

She will spend three to six years behind bars for two counts of second degree kidnapping and one count of criminal possession of a weapon.
