Residents in the Village of Wilson were without power most of Wednesday, after a temporary substation had a mechanical problem.

The issue had power on and off throughout the day, leaving neighbors worried on the almost 90 degree day.

"The fridge, obviously the food going bad. Our stove is electric, which means we order out, and that's spending money that we don't have to spend," said Katrina Bell.

About 2,100 customers were affected at one point. National Grid was able to restore power to some quickly, but others were without it for about 12 hours. The village's laundromat had a number of customers stop by, but they all left when they found the laundromat was without power as well.

"A lot of people in the town didn't have power, so many more people came today. To see if they could get their clothes washed, get things dried, and of course they couldn't," said owner Marilyn Wilson.

A spokesperson for the company said power was restored to all Wilson customers by 8:30 p.m.
