Wednesday, Dr. Eugene Gosy appeared before a judge in Buffalo and is out on bail. The focus is now what happens next for Gosy's reported 10,000 active patients?

Erie County Health Commissioner Dr. Gale Burstein says patients without a pain management physician, need to contact a primary care physician to receive a recommendation.

She says there are local physicians able to safely ween opioid users off of the drug, as well as physicians treating pain without the use of the highly addictive drugs.

The Commissioner stresses, seeking medical attention is crucial because turning to street drugs after receiving a certain regimen of medications could have dangerous results.

"First of all for those individuals that have been followed by Dr. Gosy and receiving medication I really encourage them to take action to encourage them to seek treatment before they run out of there pain medication prescription," Burstein told 7 Eyewitness News.
