If you go to Wegmans to try and purchase an EpiPen, you may find yourself out of luck.

A Wegmans spokesperson said that there is a limited supply of EpiPens at all stores and their pharmacies aren't the only retailers with limited supplies.

"We understand that the manufacturer, (Meridian Medical Technologies, a Pfizer company), is experiencing production issues and they are not giving us a timeline as to when we'll be receiving additional product," said Michelle Mehaffy, the Buffalo Consumer Affairs Manager for Wegmans. The grocery store chain adds that the issue is with the drug manufacturers and not with Wegmans.

EpiPens are prescribed to individuals with a history of allergic reactions. The pens inject a small amount of epinephrine to help relieve individuals suffering from a life-threatening allergic reaction.

While Mylan sells and markets the EpiPen, Pfizer manufactures the device.

A spokesperson for Pfizer said EpiPens are currently being shipped, but cautioned that supplies may vary from pharmacy to pharmacy. The spokesperson also noted that the FDA has not announced an EpiPen shortage in the United States.
