Six early Thursday morning flights out of Buffalo have been canceled as airlines prepare for winter weather.

The worst conditions stretch from the Carolinas to Maine, with the Northeast getting the brunt on Thursday.

It already has led to thousands of canceled flights and shuttered schools, as well as fears of outages and flooding.

Delta canceled three flights, to New York and Boston, while United canceled a flight to Newark. JetBlue has canceled two flights to Boston.

JetBlue is offering a waiver for changes and cancellation fees if you rebook for travel through Wednesday, January 10.  Original travel must have been booked on or before January 2.

Delta tweeted additional cancellations are possible as winter storms move north.  The company has already canceled 400 flights.

United is also offering a travel waiver if you need to make changes.

Boston is expected to get more than a foot of snow.  New York City and Long Island are preparing for five to eight inches of snow with strong wind gusts.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect in New York City from 1 a.m. Thursday until 1 a.m. Friday.
