The site where gunmen killed 14 people Wednesday afternoon in San Bernardino, Calif. is a facility that serves individuals with developmental disabilities.

The Inland Regional Center facility has 670 staff members, according to the center, and serves more than 30,200 people from Southern California. The facility has served San Bernardino residents for 44 years.

The center has been at its current location since, 1996. Its staff has grown over the years. In 1995, the facility employed 225 and served 12,000.

The facility works in case management, helping to provide services to people with various forms of developmental disabilities, including autism, cerebral palsy and epilepsy.

The group posted on its Facebook page yesterday photos of a Christmas party, as Santa visited with children. The group also hosts a number of events on its premises, designed for people with developmental disabilities.

“As an agency among agencies, Inland Regional Center coordinates with generic services to enhance the lives of people with developmental disabilities and their families by working to include them in the everyday routines and life rhythms of the community,” the center’s mission statement said.
