Two American heroes were in Western New York on Wednesday.

Commander Kirk Lippold and Captain Florent Groberg were speaking at the Western New York Safety Conference in Niagara Falls.

Both men shared their experiences of being attacked while serving their country.

Commander Lippold was at the helm of the USS Cole in 2000 when his ship was attacked by Al Qaeda members.

He told his story to share with the group of corporate leaders the importance of integrity when facing immense challenges.

Those who attended Wednesday's event also got to hold the medal of honor Captain Groberg received from President Barack Obama. He was honored for his quick thinking and action when he tackled a suicide bomber in Afghanistan in 2012.

The safety conference continues Thursday at the Seneca Niagara Casino.
