Puerto Ricans displaced by hurricane Maria a year later are still living in Buffalo.

After the massive storm ravished the island, some 1800 displaced by the storm came to live in Buffalo. Many, like Liz Olan are still here.

Olan had her foot amputated in Puerto Rico just two weeks before the storm hit. She had to hide out in a bathroom while the storm was flooding her home and tearing off her roof.

Weeks after the storm, she came to live with her daughter in Buffalo.

She was helped by the Western New York Puerto Rico Hurricaine Maria Relief Fund, the Hispanic Heritage Council and other charitable organizations.

"We are alive," she said. "Thank God for that. We are alive."

She hopes to get back home at some time, but fears it may not be for a couple years.
