She created what may be the most photographed object in Lewistion. It's a monument called "Freedom Crossing" and the five figures that make up the piece are bigger than life. The life-like creations were created in artist Susan Geissler's Youngstown studio.

"Once it comes out of your soul, it starts to live" is how Susan explains her process. Surrounded by all sorts of characters that have sprung from her imagination she is hard at work on her next project. It's a piece for the City of Lockport and will be her largest and most time consuming work yet.

The new piece is called "Lock Tenders Tribute" and is based on a photograph from 1897. Susan's job is to recreate that photograph, life-sized and three dimensional. There are fourteen figures in the photo and she will work on each person one-at-a-time. Susan says "each one has a personality that's coming out. So you have to take it in-it's like being an actor really.

Her latest project will take three years to complete, meanwhile you can check out some of her creations at her studio in Youngstown orat her website.
