At 153 Delaware Avenue in Buffalo you'll find "The City of Buffalo Department of Coffee and Donuts". While it isn't an official branch of local government it does have a "commissioner". Howard Goldman says he was just re-elected as commissioner but he "ran unopposed".

The department's main job is to sell donuts. The donuts are hand made by the Commissioner. There is only one model of donut available -the "1901 L" model. The "L" stands for lard. According to the Commissioner he makes Western New York's only lard donut and adds "it's what I would expect to find at the Pan-American Exposition in 1901."

The Department of Coffee and Donuts has been doing a brisk business since they opened in June even though they do have limited "office hours". They are open only on Tuesdays from 11:30 am until 1:30 pm.

The department also sells paper hats and coffee mugs stamped with the official "City of Buffalo Department of Coffee and Donuts" logo. You can get more information and order some donuts at their website.
