A bassoon isn't a common instrument to play, but 17 year-old Daniel Korte took on the challenge of playing the instrument because he loved the sound it made.

"It's the low register that is absolutely gorgeous and so deep and rich," Korte said. "The high register can just sing and it's just incredible."

He has been playing the bassoon since he was nine years old and wants to one day be a professional performer.

Korte beat out hundreds of high school seniors across the country to be the principal bassoonist in a 122 member National Association for Music Education’s 2018 All-National Honor Ensembles.

"I did not believe it I sat there and I just reread the email over and over again," Korte said.

Korte will practice for an hour and a half each day until he heads to Florida the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
