A former teacher and chiropractor in Salamanca is facing federal charges of health care fraud and making false statements relating to health care matters.

Prosecutors say Leo Kronert, Jr. of Frewsburg submitted false claims for payment to Medicare and private insurance companies seeking reimbursement for services he allegedly provided through his chiropractic practice.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, the claims included services he allegedly performed between January 2011 and December 2015 on family members, and for services he allegedly provided while out of town.

During this time, Kronert was also employed full time as a teacher at Salamanca High School. His name is no longer listed on the district's faculty directory.

Kronert faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.
