Dozens of students, teachers, and the family of Lamont Yancey gathered Sunday evening on the steps of City Honors School in Buffalo.

Yancey, a 15-year-old sophomore, passed out while playing basketball at the school on Friday and later died.

Many people at the vigil Sunday night say Yancey was a great student and kid.

Principal William Kreese told the Buffalo News, "Lamont was a gentle soul who was incredibly polite and had a smile for every person at our school. He took great pride in being a student at City Honors and playing a part in our basketball program."

Family members respectfully declined to talk to 7 Eyewitness News on camera, but they say the last few days have been very difficult.

The principal at City Honors says grief counselors will be on campus, Monday.

Yancey's funeral is set for Friday.

His death remains under investigation.
